TLDR; Are you contributing, are you consistent, are you having fun?
I’m sure 365 is the wrong number, but about a year ago, we were told we would be WFH. Not knowing when we would be back, I started a daily morning email to my team at LinkedIn titled “WFCV” — Work From Coronavirus.
It was a simple note, much like MMM, that provided an update, a fun anecdote, an area of opportunity, or a reminder of our shared objectives. It went on for ~100 straight days, through the end of our fiscal year.
I did this for a few reasons:
Retain a sense of community & culture
Create consistency in a time of uncertainty
Maintain focus on our goals
Have fun
The team ended our fiscal year in June, just three months later, with a best-ever performance, amid a pandemic, and in a large enterprise sales environment where previous success had long been attributed to face-to-face meetings that were no longer an option.
No, I don’t think it was because of WFCV.
Instead, it was about what WFCV represented—doing the little things right, every single day, for a long time.
I say all of this because you should ask yourself: are you contributing in a positive way to your immediate team and culture? Are you consistent and focused on the things that matter? Are you having fun?
The last year has been tough no doubt, but if you answered “no” to any of those questions, get back in the game.
See you Monday.
