TLDR: Build systems instead of doing tasks.
In Adam Smith’s book The Wealth of Nations he introduces the concepts of productive & unproductive labor.
Take cleaning your house for example.
You can spend a few hours cleaning it, but the moment you stop, it starts getting dirty again.
Alternatively, you can spend those same hours buying and setting up a robotic vacuum (or a robotic lawn mower), and the moment you’re done, your home—or at least part of it—is perpetually being cleaned.
The latter is productive labor—time spent creating leverage and perpetual value.
This concept translates well to our work.
We should aim to build systems instead of doing tasks.
Look to create leverage with our time by making things repeatable, more efficient, and self-sustaining.
So the question is, how much of your workday is spent cleaning your house?
See you Monday.
