TLDR: They’re clichés for a reason…there must be something to it.
Had this idea recently to take a bunch of lifestyle clichés more seriously.
Kind of simple thinking. They must be clichés for a reason, right?
Started about two months ago, I was already doing many of them in some way shape or form, but here’s what we’ve got so far…
Drink less. Going on 8 weeks without a drink. Physical health definitely feels better, less bloated, less anxious, more energy…especially on the weekends.
Exercise more. Yea, it’s worth the hype. Endorphins, go figure.
Go to bed earlier. Not an easy one for me. Poor effort, results inconclusive.
Wake up earlier. Worth it, but easier when you have something to look forward to.
Eat healthier. 100% worth it, I still leave 2 nights a week to feast. Down about 8 pounds.
Meditate. Never really stopped, but have been more intentional recently. Current streak is 2,810 days on Headspace. It’s ok. A little more emotionally detached than baseline.
Be grateful. Yea this one works. Optimism is an important life force… but don’t be annoying about it.
No phone before bed. Impossible.
Care less about what people think. Spotlight effect… definitely do this one if you can.
Laugh more. Hard to control, met Dave Attell at Comedy Cellar though. Worth the impromptu wait in line for sure. Pete Davidson agrees.
Play the long game. TBD.
Drink more water. Yea, marginal, but worth it. Less hungry, feel lighter, more clear headed and energetic. Lemon water in the morning specifically.
Less TV, more music. Made some playlists, definitely worth it. Also learned Riptide on the ukulele after a Vance Joy show — I’m embarrassingly bad, but still worth it.
So yea, I guess they’re clichés for a reason.
The discipline is the hard part. Feels more like constant decision making rather than developing good habits.
Probably makes me prone to a backslide. Definitely requires playing a strong mental game.
Think the next endeavor might be to explore things that make other people happy.
Same simple thinking. It must make them happy for a reason, right?
If you’ve got a couple minutes, shoot me some ideas.
See you Monday.
