TLDR; To work backwards and unlock new possibilities, try asking “what must be true for this to work?”
In Charlie Munger’s The Great Mental Models, he describes the necessity to learn how to think over what to think; relying on mental models to approach decision making.
For the sake of brevity in this week’s MMM, a dramatic over-simplification of “Inversion” is asking yourself “what must be true for this to work?”
By approaching problems in this way, you are effectively working backwards, shifting from a gut reaction to a mode of thinking that requires your creativity to unlock possibilities.
Give it a try this week, and let me know how it goes.
See you Monday.
