TLDR: The best MMM’s of 2022 ranked and linked.
It feels like just yesterday we were writing The Best of 2021, recapping posts like The Rule of Three, Tlazocamati, How to Get Lucky, and (Obvious) Values.
So before we head out for the holidays next week, I thought I would take this opportunity to thank you all for subscribing and sharing this Monday ritual with your networks, and if you haven’t subscribed yet, now’s the time!
So without further adieu, this year’s most popular Monday Morning Meetings.
The Best Monday Morning Meetings of 2022
10. I’ve got nothing today
TLDR: Keeping the streak alive.
We all need a break from time to time, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t punch the clock. In this post, I simply gave myself a pass, and suggested you might consider doing the same from time-to-time.
9. Not an option
TLDR: When your mindset is that failure is not an option you’ll increase your odds of success.
The founder mindset is an important one that can be embodied in many walks of life. Specifically, approaching your most important commitments with the mindset that failure is not an option—winning the game of inches & managing your energy expectations—will lead to outsized results.
8. When you build it
TLDR: Taking pride in what you do is the most underrated form of competition.
Just a few weeks ago, I walked down memory lane and recounted what it means to take pride in what you do and how that translates to a sense of responsibility and a winning attitude.
7. Twitter: Would you stay or would you go?
TLDR: Twitter has an opportunity to change the world, but the spectators aren’t a culture fit.
With Elon buying Twitter for $44b this year, there was a heated debate between hustle culture, strong leadership, and managing compassionately. In this post, we unpacked a bit of that, but also got much deeper on Twitter’s potential.
6. Too Busy
TLDR: Calendar audits and the Eisenhower Matrix—a quick workshop you can run for yourself or others.
Managing your own calendar is hard, but helping someone else manage theirs doesn’t have to be.
5. Turbulence
TLDR: Long-term problems with long-term people.
After FTX and SBF news hit the Twitterspheres, I wrote a post about focusing on fundamentals and taking the long-term view. It was subsequently picked up by Launch House’s blog Homescreen and reposted by Antler in The Angle as well.
4. Calendly Etiquette
TLDR: Do the work when you're asking for the time.
At least a couple times each year I see a heated debate on LinkedIn over whether or not to use Calendly, or some other calendar link booking system. In this post, it’s all about professional etiquette.
3. Follow-up & follow-through
TLDR: Trust = Consistency/Time. Follow-up & follow-through are key.
It seems my readers love work frameworks, so here’s yet another one from LinkedIn, and a first principle for working well with others: Trust = Consistency/Time
2. 3-minute call
TLDR: Shorter and more productive calls happen at intentionally random times.
This one took me by surprise—one of the simpler posts taking a top spot this year—the 3-minute call.
These calls happen at XX:27 or XX:57—in the last 3-5 minutes of a meeting block.
At these moments, people are either prepping for their next meeting or dying to get out of the one they’re in. The timing forces the call to be short and impactful.
1. Antler
TLDR: I’m moving into a new role as a General Partner at Antler, co-leading the US fund.
In first place by a wide margin, with nearly 10X as many views as the average 2021 post, was the essay on my move to Antler.
In this post, we covered:
Career advice and navigating long-term goals
What’s broken in venture
A goal to build the best pre-seed fund on the planet
And with that, we’re wrapped. Happy Holidays, Monday Morning Meeting family!
See you Monday.
