TLDR: Go slow to go fast, but not at all costs
You may have heard the phrase “Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.” It’s a phrase that originates from the Navy Seals.
I was reminded of it last week when two colleagues, who use the saying often, dropped by with a sixteen-year-old sipping tequila to celebrate a recent win and talk about life and work.
As I’ve written in the past: by definition, to be better than average, you have to be different.
So naturally, as the best will do, they augmented the adage:
Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast. Go slow to go fast, and keep the waters as still as glass.
That is, slowing down to speed up may be common knowledge to some, but keeping the waters ‘as still as glass’ is a skill that’s detrimental when dormant.
See you Monday.
